Refurbishment

Structural change delivered with confidence.

Our experience across complex, existing buildings means we understand how structures were originally built, how they behave, and how best to intervene.

At Collins, we excel in structural refurbishment projects where we employ due diligence to expose risk, where we can assess the conditions properly and manage them upfront, rather than hoping issues won’t arise later.

By taking a considered and collaborative approach, we are able to create transparent programmes that are realistic, allocate risk fairly and create long-term value, giving clarity for clients and confidence for delivery partners.

Structural design, built into our team.

Bridging the gap between the client’s design vision and the realities of construction does not end with architecture. So we have structural design management embedded within our team.

Our Structural Design Managers (SDM) combine the technical depth of qualified engineers with the coordination and strategic skills of Design Managers.

This blend allows us to interrogate, challenge and refine structural information early, ensuring buildability, safety and certainty. It's why we have a reputation for the successful delivery of complex, structural refurbishments. We make sure we understand what’s underneath.

An entrepreneurial approach

Our people are proactive problem-solvers, known for taking ownership and finding better ways to deliver. We build long-term relationships with high-quality subcontractors and involve them early, using their specialist expertise at tender stage to challenge assumptions, explore solutions and resolve structural issues before they reach site.

What we offer

  • Assessment

Assess, interrogate and challenge structural design information

  • Sequencing

Manage temporary works and structural sequencing

  • Coordination

Coordinate cut-and-carve schemes and adaptation of existing buildings

  • Existing Frames

Integrate new structure within existing frames

  • Information Management

Manage the flow of structural information to ensure accuracy, clarity and buildability

  • Proactive Resolution

Resolve structural issues early in collaboration with consultants and subcontractors

Our SDMs don’t operate in silo

They form part of a wider design management team that works closely with commercial, planning, technical, delivery, and the wider supply chain and consultants.

This integrated approach ensures structural decisions are coordinated, buildable and aligned with programme, cost and design intent.

Risks are identified earlier, coordination is tighter, and our delivery teams have a clearer, more robust platform to build from.
