St John’s Hospice is an independent charity located within the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in St John’s Wood, providing specialised palliative care to more than 4,000 terminally-ill patients and their families every year.
They critically rely on voluntary donations, grants and legacies to continue with their care, which is only made possible thanks to the generosity of their supporters and volunteers.
To help them continue raising much needed funds for the Hospice, they rely totally on the generosity of the local community donating goods to their charity shops.
Unfortunately, their charity shop on St John’s Wood high street was in dire need of a refresh. The space was not utilised to its full capacity - a cluttered shop and storage room meant there was no room to efficiently sort through and display donations. They are incredibly supported by their local community and volunteers, but they needed a bright, organised space to make the most of receiving and selling their donations.
Using our skills and knowledge as a construction company, we knew we could really help the volunteers at the charity shop bring their space to life.
Before
This included installing a new ceiling and lights, stripping and painting the walls, installing new shelving racks, laying a new floor in the storage room, providing more organised storage, stripping and varnishing the floor and re-designing the space to increase area for sales and display.
You can see from the before and after photos what a difference this has made. Their re-opening on Saturday reported record takings, a huge well done to everyone involved who helped make this happen.
We are all delighted to have helped such a worthy cause - we hope the new shop allows the Hospice to raise even more money, so they are able to give their patients the care they deserve.
Last but by no means least, a big thank you to all our subcontractors for your generosity, we wouldn’t have been able to complete the job without you. Huge thanks to Stirling Medical for all the racking, Winters Electrical Services for the lighting, DMS for rubbish clearance, T&S Acoustics for ceiling tiles, T&T Timber Merchants for the paint & skirting and The Hireman for the sander & steps.
