We recognise that the construction industry has seen a reduction in managerial staff over the past several years. By offering opportunities for young people to grow, develop and learn, we are building the next generation of construction professionals to support the future workforce.
Collins is pleased to announce the launch of its first official apprenticeship scheme in partnership with the London South Bank University, working alongside the Business Engagement and Apprenticeship Team.
Three students have been employed to work as Management Trainees while they study for their formal academic Level 4 NVQ (HNC equivalent) Qualifications in Site Supervision and Quantity Surveying. The new structured training programme will help the apprentices develop the technical and business skills needed to support their desk-top learning and in forging a career in construction.
Over the duration of their two-year course, the apprentices will be spending time with the Health and Safety, Technical Services, Project Management and Commercial teams, to develop a full understanding of how the business works and what each team is responsible for in delivering construction projects.
They will have the opportunity to work with all divisions of the business so they can gain experience and insight into the varied job roles available within the industry. They will then have the opportunity to make informed decisions on the career path they would like to pursue once their apprenticeship has finished.
They will also learn about the Collins specific structure, processes and procedures, and our approach to developing and delivering programmes for clients.
Over the past few years, Collins has supported young people interested in careers in construction by offering short work-experience placements to young trainees and interns. This is the first time we have implemented an official and structured programme and partnered with a leading built environment University.
To ensure these students are provided with every level of support, we have created a dedicated internal team to manage the placement programme with support from the board, SHEQ team and company administration.
We are proud to be able to contribute to the development of future construction professionals and we welcome Dominic, Tom and James to the Collins family.
